hi hi hi, how are youuu
what a silly little couple of weeks it’s been. lots of cold weather, lots in the news cycle. lots of pondering of gifts. lots of travel and talks of travel.
new haven was lovely as can be and it started with the cutest hotel i’ve ever stayed at. the graduate hotel in new haven was so cutesy and charming. it had a lobby i genuinely wanted to spend time in. yale was as grand and gothic and studious as you’d imagine. the buildings were so beautiful and unique to each other. one thing i would 1000% recommend is visiting the yale art gallery!! we were both impressed by the exhibitions they had on display, one of the featured artists was one angel studied closely in college. we even encountered a small version of the horse sculptures at the south end of prospect park! lots to do in new haven but i’d definitely make a point to return to the art gallery! we picked a good time to visit as all the students were still away for thanksgiving, so campus and the town were quiet. however when we left on sunday, EVERYONE was coming back. u live and u learn
we ended up just going to modern apizza, one of the three famous new haven spots. attempted to walk-in (i believe they’re all walk-ins?) and waited about 50 minutes for a table. service was great and the pizza came out quickly but i think i was underwhelmed by the experience? i thought the pizza was good but i think my preferences just lean towards new york style pizza….. but again, we only tried the one spot and there’s two others that have more of a reputation (and are harder to get into). new haven simply forced our hands, we’ll have to return!
HOWEVER, the seafood in new haven did not disappoint. we had great lobster rolls, great clam chowder, great crawfish!!! super duper into the seafood scene in new haven. other lovely things about new haven, really good coffee, lots of cool bookstores (s/o grey matter books), and gorgeous stained glass work. i did pick up the yarn i needed and the kind yarn lady complimented my nails. loved this little traipse up to new england!

i cut my hair!!!! day 1, i was really not sure how to feel but over the past week, i’ve come to love it! i think the hair stylist just styled my hair in a way that made it look extremely helmet-like. but i’ve lived in it for a week now and i really like it. i especially love not having to fuss with it when i put on jackets and scarves. and my hair dries sooooo fast now.
outside of that, i’ve been working working working. tgxr has been consistently busy and mls keeps tapping me on the shoulder for help. i got drinks w some old mls coworkers and gathered the gossip and met some new buddies. hung out w dear friends, ate a chamoy pickle, visited the guggenheim, watched movies, and enjoyed my time which seems to be slipping by quicker than ever
(((in my hands)))
FINISHED my mittens. great news for me since i do not have a proper set of gloves/mittens other than a free pair i got at a race last year which are not super everyday wearable. i now have enough leftover yarn to do a matching beanie. will likely be my next project
my little handkerchief/head scarf project is also making solid progress. bc i’m freehanding this i’m doing a lot of starting and stopping, trying it on to see where i’m at, and puzzling over when to stop knitting lol. but it’s been a nice brainless knit to work on on the train or while watching movies
i said i was going to knit socks for my family for christmas….. extremely ambitious of me seeing as i’ve never knit socks before and grossly underestimated the time requirement…… send help, i’ve got zero clue what to get them
vlog progress. i’ve done up a graphics package to use for title cards, etc & started adding music. amsterdam vlog is imminent, hopefully with the next newsletter
also angel is going on a trip this weekend so i will have the house to myself. which means i’m gonna be a little elf in the workshop all weekend. and just generally using the time to focus on some projects. looking forward to just going all in on crafting and creating and playing. shhhh don’t tell him!!!
(((on my screens)))
been on a really good movie kick!!! not necessarily at alamo but have been moving through some stuff i’ve been wanting to watch for years and generally really loving the movies i’ve been watching
i’ve crossed the 200 movie threshold and my 200th movie of 2024 was…….. THE ADVENTURES OF SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL. LMAO!
i really love sharkboy and lavagirl, always have, always will. but i just think it’s funny that my 200th movie is a movie i’ve seen probably 10 times when my 199th and 201st were some fantastic movies that i’d never seen before
my milestone movies are all a little laughable but u know what i enjoyed each of these, except for the eurovision one i kind of would like to turn the clock back on that one
angel is doing another one of his 31 days, 31 movies months and this time i’m coming along for the ride and trying to watch alongside him. it started out naturally being able to watch a lot of movies together at the top of december so he decided to make december that kind of month (which is a little insane given the chaos of december, but hell yeah brother). lately we’ve been on a hitchcock kick, i’d only seen one hitchcock movie prior so i’ve really enjoyed this streak. we’ve also never done a director deep dive quite like this and as a result we’re reveling in really wiggling in and getting to know mr. alfred hitchcock, freak that he is
i thought about ranking the hitchcocks i’ve seen but genuinely i can’t really pick one i liked over the other. i really will have to sit with it, lyk later
watching hitchcock’s strangers on a train + rope introduced me to farley granger, who evokes josh o’connor in likeness and keanu reeves in acting style, i loved his performances and have become fond of him
omg we watched after hours, which has been on the list for a while now. often lauded as one of the best new york movies ever……… yeah no ppl are exactly right. this was better than i could’ve imagined it. just the most wild night in new york turned wilder and wilder. the whole time you feel like you’re being edged, you want this guy to go home, and you’re just begging this guy to go home please. ah!! but it’s so satisfying in the end. as i continue through martin scrosese’s filmography, i’m realizing how freakishly good at filmmaking he’s always been. he’s the maestro!
also i realized i did not include one of my newer favorites in my last newsletter. but i finally got around to watching the beast!!!! sublime, sublime, sublime. the film follows some star-crossed lovers across multiple timelines. truly france’s sick little answer to cloud atlas. it’s a coldhearted plea for being human and falling in love and getting hurt. it begs you to live despite the obstacles and the consequences bc that’s what we’re meant to do. i found it so interesting and so absorbing. my favorite white boy, george mackay, is super fantastique and lea seydoux is reliably heart wrenching and mysterious. loooooved
and!!!! on wednesday!! i got to see one of my favorite movies of all time in imax, the green knight!!!! what an experience. i saw it at a random regal in nashville when it first came out so seeing it in imax on such a huge screen was incredible. i love this movie a lot for a ton of reasons but being able to get out of the house and take a break to watch this made my week so much brighter. happy to report that i still love this movie and am still enchanted by it
i’ve been toiling over my letterboxd top 4 lately. i feel very sure about my first 2 picks but my last two…. my faith is wavering in them
and OH MY GOD. we watched the devil’s advocate. i’d never heard of it before but angel’s wanted to watch it for a while. and WOW!! movies kind of frequently knock my socks off but the devil’s advocate was something else entirely. and i’ll tell you what, keanu reeves is particularly spectacular here. when brian cox talks abt keanu becoming a halfway decent actor he’s talking about THIS movie. a movie about lawyers, a movie that begins in GAINESVILLE, FL, a movie that features cutie baby faced charlize theron, a screenplay written by tony gilroy of andor notoriety, a movie with demons and monologues and al pacino having the best time anyone’s ever had on screen……. that’s movie magic baby!
i would actually like to talk in extreme depths about the movies i’ve watched these last two weeks so . lmk if u want to chat.
i’ve been picking away at love island: all-stars. maybe a fraction more interesting than normie love island just bc there’s a ton of exes coming on. but genuinely they all recouple just to say oh yeah this definitely doesn’t work. feels like everyone’s going through the motions, but i don’t have the mind to watch anything better than this so here we are
the complete amateur’s guide to moomin: an excellent way to spend an hour and a half. i thought moomin was a cutie little cow/hippo character that showed up around the internet but moomin lore goes way back. fantastical and honest, moomins contain tove jansson’s world. the art of european cartoon continues to be an area i keep overlooking but this video was equally relaxing and educational. i feel a tintin era returning…..
i finished all the young dudes………. so i’m a 2024 wolfstar shipper, what of it!!
am now trying to read the secret history for a second time. this try is going much, much better
i set a goodreads goal of reading 25 books bc i think i got to 15 last year…… i’m so stupid. what was i thinking. i think i had one year
spotify wrapped dropped. mine below for those interested.
i really don’t know how luiz bonfa is my number 1 artist, i was expecting a tribe called quest or labi siffre or 1d to take top spot. i genuinely haven’t listened to luiz in like 4 months. ah peu importe!
(you like the french? i learned it on tiktok pfft!)
anyhow, i think that’s all!! my next weeks will be focused on gift-making and gathering and just generally getting everything in line for the new year. lots to do in the way of planning and to literally do. hm hm hm. could use a vacation!
love u,,,,,,,,,
