hi hi little boobies,

i bought a new swimsuit for the first time in three years this year and i haven’t stopped shopping for swimsuits since. it’s unreasonable but i’ve got three diff suits in my cart rn. also have so far purchased two new shoes for this trip and i’m on the verge of a third. it’s becoming an issue.
in any case. i’ve had some very good weekends and not bad weeks! since the olympics ended i have been chill. still working a lot w freelance but am just vibing. last weekend was really delightful. spent a lot of time with mine and angel’s friends!! angel’s old breaking friends from college came to visit and it was so nice seeing them after two years. i was happy to be able to talk with them more, they’re both older and work in different industries than us so it was cool catching up on life and their travels.
it was especially great to see them because we watched breaking’s debut at the olympics together! as a non-breaker, it was good for me to get actual context from people who know what it’s like to break and battle (and also battled victor before!). angel used to break so i’ve learned a lot from him over the years and have watched breaking videos and some comps with him but it’s still hard for me to decipher sometimes what’s cleanly executed and when a bboy crashes/scrapes/etc. overall, loved seeing olympic breaking!!! the men’s comp got so hype towards the end, so fun as a spectator. sad and disappointed it’s not included in LA28 but it’s for the best i think.
oh my god! i went to a ny public pool for the first time last week. i had a personal day on wednesday and as the weather was beautiful and sunny, i wanted to give the public pool a shot. i went to douglass degraw first bc it’s walking distance from me and it was !!!CLOSED!!! so i trekked over to a bus and took it to red hook public pool. i’d heard stories abt the process of getting into a ny public pool but it was easy and not threatening at all! they checked my bag, i got a locker, and was on my way to the deck. spent a couple hours out there reading and relaxing and paddling around. it’s a super good vibe, lots of families just enjoying the water. omg and they had free spf! so lovely bc i got a little burned while i was out there. the ny public pool system has gained a dedicated fan 👍👍👍 hope to get out there one or two more times before the summer is over
this past weekend was pretty lowkey but soooo lovely. got to experience scandoval again with madi and kaden. did some freelance work. got caught in the rain twice! and just generally enjoyed my home <3
i am fighting a terrible fight with my printer rn. i bought it in nashville and it’s been temperamental it’s whole existence. but it’s really acting up lately and as i spent my precious first paycheck on it, i’m determined to get it running again.
(((craft corner!!!!!!!!! finally!)))
big news, i finished a knit tank top. it’s the fastest i’ve ever completed a knit project (5 days!!!!). i’m taking it to europe so i will provide photos in situ then
learning that i really hate doing sleeves. i’m in the sleeves part of my cardigan and it made me so fucking disinterested. taking a knitting break and will return to it soon. i decided i won’t be taking this cardigan with me as it is a bit heavy and for one-bag purposes i will be packing lightly
i’ll consider this a craft, but i’m going to try to srsly vlog this europe trip. idk when i’ll have a chance to do a trip like this again so i will be aiming to document it as much as possible. also i want to send it home to family and friends to share in the experience
also i finally finished up the press-on set i promised my cousin months ago lmfao. it was so much fun, i like doing press-on nails way better than doing my actual nails (which i love already). i have so much more control and am not limited by what my left hand can accomplish. if you would like a press-on set pls let me know, i will do it!!
have been doing my nails simply lately bc i want to do a really nice set to take to europe (which is 2 weeks away 😲)
(((media mediarr)))
hi girls. i watched it ends with us with madi last week (opening day lmao) and sue me, i enjoyed it! don’t get me wrong, this movie is COMICAL. everything about it is ridiculous and a bit eye-roll inducing but the drama was actually so engaging. it ends with us the book is so interesting bc it is simple in concept, poor in execution, and generally unremarkable, but i have so much to say about it (none of it good). but then come the movie and it’s become so complicated. btwn the cast/director dynamics, domestic violence portrayals (what do we actually owe when the source material is rancid to begin with), and like wardrobe and blake lively’s prestige ambitions….. what the hell this was just supposed to be a come-and-go sappy book adaptation.
don’t get it twisted, i will be reading colleen hoover’s next release + watching whatever adaptation comes out. it’s great entertainment
i won’t comment on blake lively v. justin baldoni further (but if this also contributes to the ts downfall, u won’t see me complaining)
i’ve been putting criterion subscription to use! i’ve been making my way through their “vacation noir” collection and it’s been so wonderful
dangerous crossing: big boat gaslight movie. simple but maddening, with really golden dialogue
the lady from shanghai: first orson welles!! yeah this was fantastic. genuinely twisting and engaging. feels like watching something very inevitable unfolding. rita hayworth is so fucking beautiful in this, i’m spiraling towards an evelyn hugo re-read.
i started watching his kind of woman, but unfortunately it could not hold my attention despite a really enchanting turn from jane russell. i’ll try again one day maybe
GIRLS I WATCHED TRAP. m. night shyamalan hit low lows with the last airbender, comparably higher highs w split, and middddd mids with knock at the cabin + glass. but lads, we’re so fucking back. soooo back. trap is fantastic, trap is for bitches who like to have fun. this is a summer fun time movie that had me properly chuckling and gripping the arm rest (not literally, arm rest too thick these days). god i had so much fun with trap. and yes, the dialogue feels extremely fake but i kind of loved that about it. on paper, this movie is simple and predictable and would feel a little rote. but i think shyamalan has an unusual way of directing that is so bewildering that i can’t help but support.
m.’s daughter saleka plays the popstar in the movie and became an actual character later in the movie but like lmao! her music is generic pop music but they kept playing it the whole movie and then before i knew it i was bopping along. think i was stockholm syndromed into becoming a fan, saleka/lady raven ily
loooooooooved seeing kid cudi in this, always a pleasure, mr. cudi!
ALERT ALERT
love island reunion TONIGHTTTTT
interview with the vampire s1 is on netflix!!!!!!!! watch watch watch
moving along with reading, i’m a slower reader than ever these days book-wise, but i HAVE been reading newsletters. i some enduring writers that i’ve read for a couple years now: delia cai, hunter harris, terry nguyen. but i’ve recently expanded my inbox to a couple more authors that i’ve enjoyed and will link below
emilia petrarca’s shop rat: gorgine style newsletter that inspires me to be more intentional about my clothes (i’m working on it). and tho i won’t reach emilia’s heights of curated designer picks, i just love to look and learn
sabrina imbler’s creatures NYC: god i wish this was monthly, but this is a cutie newsletter about engaging with the outdoors in nyc and she also supplies outdoor activities and learning opportunities!! it’s like opening a window in my inbox
been watching sex and the city during work so haven’t been listening to loads of music but i did listen to two albums from the rolling stone list, as follows:
#63: steely dan’s aja. i’ve heard of steely dan but didn’t know what they were. i now know they’re a jazz rock duo and yes, they are!! didn’t do it for me, but i am not equipped to appreciate it fully, 6/10
#2: beach boys’s pet sounds. well helloooooo. when the random number generator pulled a 2 i was scared and interested to see what would sit as the 2nd greatest album of all time. and rightly so, the spot is occupied by the beach boys. so this was welcome!! a lot of the first songs i learned on the guitar were beach boys songs and i always return to them on sunny days. so 10/10 nooooooo notes <3
hm ok! that’s all from me i think. these next couple weeks will be spent putting my affairs in order (eating the food in my freezer), cleaning the apartment, and toiling over my packing list over and over until i have to go. but generally we’re pretty prepped and good to go! sublet is all but set, we have ordered cash, we’re getting covid boosters this week, i keep meaning to do a test pack but at this point i guess i’m just packing lol.
love u bunches, happy monday, happy end of summer!
