hello!! happy olympics day!!
i write to you while watching the opening ceremony for the 2024 olympics!! and from what i can tell, opening ceremonies planners cannot resist putting a large ship on land and having a beautiful woman sing on it.
i love the olympics, they’re so much fun. i owe it all to the 2008 beijing olympics and nastia liukin and michael phelps for entering my consciousness. i love watching the opening ceremonies, i remember watching the beijing one in my grandparents’ living room back in the day. and then of course i was seated and watching the london 2012 ceremony to see one direction perform. s/o to the commentators whoever they were, they talked to great length about the production of the ceremony, which was so interesting to me as a kid. i forgot a lot of the details but i do remember them saying that danny boyle directed the ceremonies, who maybe was the first directors’ name to enter my mind. the paris ceremony so far is really fun!!! weird choice to have lady gaga to perform first but!
anyway! the opening ceremony is today/now but i’ve been prepping for the olympics for the past week, building out social templates and togethxr’s olympic hub. i’ll have the olympics on for the next few weeks bc of work and i will be working them next weekend. since my last email, i’ve just been soooOOoOO work focused. i went to a conference last week and i hated it. i learned some cool things, got a bit inspired, but i really did not enjoy the social aspect. maybe i’m an introvert these days or maybe it was a mistake to send me to a sports design conference when i don’t want to do design anymore, who really is to say hm?
feeling really intense fomo with mls + the conference, there were loads of speakers who work mls clubs and seeing the projects made me miss mls a ton. and then this past week was mls all-star week, so i saw all my ex-co-workers’ stories from location on instagram and it looked so fun and way more enjoyable than going to a conference. i was jealous, i was sad, i got a little emotional at the conference. i hated it so much i think i made myself sick bc i did end up getting ill on the last day and missing it.
OMG AND i got caught in the crowdstrike outage. i got really lucky and was able to get out with only a 6 hour delay, instead of several days. detroit airport is nice! new bathrooms. detroit as a city, also cool! good food.
i’ve decided that i’m going to dye my hair again. going back to the l’oreal red box dye. we’ll see if it shows up. i need the hair dye endorphins rush again, it’s been years.

if you take one thing away from this……… YOU MUST, MUST SEE TWISTERS IN 4DX. you have tooooooooo. i’ve never seen a movie in 4dx before, it felt silly, i thought it would be a silly gimmick that was like the shrek 4d ride at universal studios. it’s actually somewhere between that and soarin’ at epcot. brother they lifted our asses up and we were bopping around, wind blowing in our ears. twisters was beyond the best possible movie to watch in 4dx! there’s not a better movie made to be seen in 4dx
4dx experience was to die for. the seats are in sets of 4, i was at the end of my little set, angel and brady were next to me. every time the action started picking up and a tornado was on it’s way, the lady in the set of 4 next to me would make eye contact with me and we’d just start laughing. there was highkey a huge feeling of camaraderie every time the seats started moving again. everyone was hooting and hollering. there was applause after some of the tornado sequences.
i particularly loved 4dx bc the actual 4dx experience was kicked off by the regal roller coaster intro. we watched a couple trailers while the seats were totally still and then the roller coaster intro played and it was so fucking cool. you got strapped in and then the seats shook like a roller coaster and then you’re literally riding the regal roller coaster. beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
i thought i’d get motion sick or have a headache from the movement of the seat but i was fine afterwards! i was just tickled beyond belief after the experience. i was smiling the entire time :)
twisters itself was a great time. enjoyable summer blockbuster. i loved it. it was corny and sweet and sooooo fun. i’m totally bewildered by the script. and i really loved when superman screams something superman would never scream. i loved glen powell in this, i love that man a lot. but….. hello no one talks about how hot daryl mccormack is in this….. i mean there’s an obvious screentime reason for this but i think we should talk about it more
a lot of notable movies i watched recently, i enjoyed every one of them, so i’m feeling lucky in that way:
muriel’s wedding: australian mamma mia and i’m not joking. except everyone’s a bit more gay and wildly australian. good time! young toni colette!
love lies bleeding: sooooo fucking slick and cool. always have a good time with kristen stewart but katy o’brien knocked it out of the park. she embodied physical strength + emotional instability so well
spirit!!!!!!!! i’ve never seen spirit before so it was jarring to find out that this is basically a visual album interspersed with matt damon narration. lady horse looks like cate blanchett and also spirit and his mom lowk fucked. cool!
state and main: it’s like if kettlecorn was a movie, meant in a really good way! william h. macy and philip seymour hoffman are great in this. just a smart little comedy abt movie making and like sexual misconduct. love!

love island usa ended last sunday! what a ride! pleased with how it’s all gone and i’m really happy to see the islanders outside of the villa. now that it’s all over, i love everyone, i’m happy to see everybody happy and on the podcast circuit (except for kaylor and aaron, i’d be happy to never see them again).

i think that’s about it!!!! it’s july 26th so we’re a little over a month out from europe trip! there’s been some movement on subleasing, i have a call this evening to suss it out. hopefully this candidate is the one <3 we’ve more or less hashed out tentative plans for the first half of our trip and we’re so excited! i’ve been mentally packing and i think i’ve got the list sorted out. will do a test pack next weekend while i’m stuck at home working.
